This treasure trove of locally made products is situated close to the Bartolomeu Dias Museum and is the ideal place to find really interesting and exclusive gifts at very good prices.
Township Angels specializes in papier-mâché, creating anything from large bowls to Christmas decorations and colourful chickens. There is a workshop on the premises where visitors can watch the artists at work; if you require something special it can be made to order. Hein Marais, well-known for his best-selling Township Greeting Cards, also works on the premises and the products of various other local crafters are on display as well.
On 9 February 2015 Hein received an award from the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in recognition for his valuable contribution to craft and design during the past 20 years.
Klapwijk Glass Art specializes in decorative pieces with both modern and traditional designs. Architectural projects, stained glass, as well as specially commissioned ranges for restaurants and hotels are designed and created in their Mossel Bay workshop. A vast range of unique gifts and interior objects in glass and other mediums is also available and some are on display at the Township Angels shop.
September (dates to be confirmed). Hein Marais presents a papier mâché course (create a fruit bowl) at Township Angels over 3 Saturdays 09h00-12h00 @ R150 for the course. Hopefully some people will donate their papier mâché fruit bowls to be auctioned in aid of the Heart-to-Heart Care Centre on Thursday 16 September (date to be confirmed) when Rauch Gertenbach Photo Gallery across the street will have their monthly meeting and cocktail party from around 17h30. Not a must though!
Contact Hein Marais on 076 7649 751 or email@example.com if you are interested in the course. Maryke Krause (082 3364 056) and Marnette van Zyl (084 3245 011) are the winners of the 2 tickets sponsored by Proe Mosselbaai.
