Klipheuwel Padstal in Great Brak River

Klipheuwel Padstal and Cool Bay Tasting Facility are easily reached from the N2, offer parking, a safe play area for children, outside seating for guests, and are wheelchair friendly.

Klipheuwel Padstal is located in the old farmhouse. The Padstal’s intimate restaurant, well-known among local residents, serves hearty breakfasts and light lunches. Roosterkoek and pies are freshly baked every day and other baked goodies are also for sale. On Fridays fresh produce are sold; a variety of décor items and hand-picked antique items are also on offer. A rose nursery – the only one in the Garden Route – is a recent addition to this charming venue.

At the Cool Bay Tasting Facility all the award-winning Boplaas wines can be tasted and bought, as well as the locally inspired Cool Bay range.

Although Boplaas is situated in Calitzdorp in the Little Karoo, the Nel family has a strong connection with the area – their holiday house is close to the Tasting Facility, right on the beach with views towards Mossel Bay. In 2009 Carel Nel, cellarmaster and owner of Boplaas Family Vineyards, and his two daughters, Rozanne (marketing manager) and Margaux (winemaker), launched a separate cool climate brand focusing on ultra premium Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz. The brand name (Cool Bay) and logo (Cape St Blaize lighthouse) were inspired by the magnificent views from their beach house.

The Cool Bay Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2009 won the South African Champion Sauvignon Blanc at the South African National Young Wine Show 2009.
