In 2018 the museum joined the Fragrance Fest with a slideshow on Friemersheim and the Volkwyn chair. Make this a first stop to find out more about the Fragrance Route, Friemersheim and the Shweshwe Stop Project. Shweshwe PROEbags, made by local women in Friemersheim, are for sale and you can also buy limited edition miniature Volkwyn chairs created by wire artist David Manando.
The versatile PROEbag is a non-electric slow cooker with numerous other uses as well. (Another version of this product made the Time Magazine “top 50 genius products worldwide” list in October 2018.) A free informative slideshow in the Outeniqua Room will tell you all you need to know about this amazing invention, and also about the history of shweshwe.
A percentage of all shweshwe items and miniature wire art Volkwyn chairs sold at the museum goes towards the Great Brak River Museum Fund.
HOURS: Open Monday to Friday from 08h30 to 16h00, other days on request.
