Fragrance Fest 2018

Saturday 3 March provides the perfect opportunity for families, friends and groups to explore the charming Fragrance Route, a tar/gravel meander of 40 km measured from the N2 at Great Brak River. Since first launched in 2015 this annual celebration on the Fragrance Route has grown by leaps and bounds - this year there are 10 venues to visit, all open until 16h00 or later (except for the museum). Click here for the printable Fragrance Fest 2018 map.

Travel at leisure while enjoying vistas of fynbos-covered countryside and majestic mountains. Great for game spotting, bird watching and photography; you can also cycle or visit by motor bike.

Book in advance for birding at Brothers Coffee Roastery, the Hakuna Matata “Hap & Stap”, and the Kobus Halliday Car Museum tour. There are foodie and art demonstrations at scheduled times, and also music at two spots. Check the different opening times and details of participating venues, and plan your trip accordingly!

Make it a PROE safari - stop to buy local products and experience a variety of tastes along the way. At game farm Hakuna Matata and at Die Kraal in Friemersheim you can picnic under the trees - buy food at their stalls, and bring along your own picnic blanket, wine and glasses.

Best to arrive early with a cooler bag for goodies bought along the way, a container with water to keep flowers fresh, and an umbrella in case of rain. Toilets are available at almost all venues and, in case of bad weather, indoor facilities as well. Please note: CASH ONLY, no credit cards are accepted at Fest stalls.

This year The Great Brak Museum (08h30-14h00) joins the Fest with information regarding Friemersheim and the Volkwyn chair, and good coffee. Nearby at the Kobus Halliday Car Museum tours will be conducted by Kobus at 08h00, 10h00 and 16h00. Bookings only (082 9707 213), R40, no children under 14.

The Fragrance Route is currently under construction, week days only, until 2020. It has been confirmed that the road between Bellevue Restaurant and Friemersheim WILL NOT BE OPEN on Saturday 3 March due to the construction of a circle at the end of Kretzen Street. It will therefore not be possible to do the circular route on the Fest day, but do travel along the scenic Kleinvlei Road to reach Bellevue - great for game watching!

In Friemersheim there will be 2 detours between the 2 Fest venues at Friemersheim Nursery and at Die Kraal, both situated in Kretzen Street. Clear signage will indicate the route to follow. From the Friemersheim Nursery Fest area in Kretzen Street: follow the DIY Route (click here for map) from the church via Geelhout Street back to Kretzen Street. Turn left and continue towards Die Kraal. Turn right into the detour (2nd road to the right); turn left at the 1st road; turn left again at the 3rd road, which goes back to Kretzen Street, with Die Kraal on the left. From Die Kraal: turn left at the 1st road where the detour is indicated; right at the T-junction; follow the road to the end, and turn right to get back to Kretzen Street. The Friemersheim Nursery is further down on the left - follow the detour via Geelhout Street to get back to Kretzen Street.
